Loyola University Teaching

Hi everyone! I'm an Associate Professor and the Director of Music at Loyola University Chicago. I teach both classical and jazz piano students, and routinely teach courses in Music Theory, Musicianship, Improvisation, Chamber Music, Music Business, and Music Appreciation ("The Art of Listening"). In 2014, I was awarded The Edwin T. and Vivijeanne F. Sujack Award for Teaching Excellence, “the very highest honor that the Loyola University College of Arts and Sciences bestows for the very best in teaching and research.” In the twenty-year history of the award, I'm proud to be the first ever winner from the Department of Fine and Performing Arts.

Private Lessons

I maintain a small private piano studio outside of Loyola University. Although I'm not currently accepting new students, please feel free to send me an email if you're interested. Spots often open quickly as my Loyola teaching and concert schedule changes. Individual lessons are typically 60 minutes and are currently being held via Zoom only.

Group Lessons

I haven't held group lessons outside of Loyola yet, but it is something that I'm very excited about. The idea here is that the lessons would focus on a specific technique or piece and be more like a course, that is to say limited to 4-8 hour-long lessons. Two examples are a Chopin "Revolutionary" étude boot camp (left hand technical development) and Debussy's Clair De Lune. Group lessons would of course be more affordable and likely ideal for the pianist who wants to focus on a specific concept or piece for just a month or two. Please let me know via email if interested. I've prepared detailed practice materials for the examples listed and excited to share them with  those interested. Group lessons would be held via Zoom only.
